HiI am Tina
I have two children of my own and both of them attended the Open Classroom. My son was a student here when the Open Classroom was still a small program housed in an annex building of Washington Elementary. Back then the school only went to the 6th grade. My daughter started as a student of the OC in that same building and later graduated as a member of the OC's first graduating 8th-grade class.
While my own kids attended the school, I served as a parent co-opper and volunteer serving on several committees including; Parent Education, New Families, Philosophy, Fundraising, New Charter School, Curriculum, and others.
I don't want to brag but I was one of a small group of parents that pushed for the OC to become a charter school, meeting sometimes weekly to research and design a vision of what the Open Classroom could look like as a charter school. Years later the OC was approved to become the first Salt Lake School District charter school.
I recognize how lucky I am to be a teacher in a school with such wonderful students and parents. I have become impassioned regarding the philosophy of the Open Classroom, recognizing the transformation of the school since I first set foot in the kindergarten room with my son.
